With a trip from Nutbush, Tennessee, to the big stages of the world, the audience at the Key City Theatre was invited on a dazzling ride last Friday night. Luisa Marshall and her troupe of dancers recreated the amazing journey of Tina Turner, showing people how the talented young singer Anna Mae Bullock turned into the queen of rock ‘n roll.

The performance was any-where between concert, musical and multi-media show and done on an incredibly high level. At the centre of the action was Luisa Marshall, a Tina Turner impersonator from Vancouver who not only shared an uncanny likeness with the rock star, but was able to bring her spirit to the Key City.

Perched on dangerously high stiletto heals for the entire show, Marshall mastered every detail of the performance, from the typical bowlegged stance to the characteristic, slightly choppy arm movements and robotic dance steps. Her voice had the signature sound with its powerful and slightly nasal quality. Like the original Tina, Marshall also proved a person with a height under five foot five could command an entire stage with her presence.

Besides Tina Turner’s greatest hits, the audience also got an unbelievable dance show by the six cast members of the show, according to Marshall “the happiest feet you’ve ever see.” There was plenty to look at for the fans as “Tina impressed them with glitzy and ultra-short costumes – modeled after original show pieces – and great legs to go with them.
