Michael “Mike” Fuentespina, a Filipino-Canadian Military recognized for his exceptional service.

In June 2016, Michael Fuentespina received the Order of Military Merit from then Governor-General of Canada, David Johnston. Michael is a cyclist, a coach, a Aeromedical Evacuation Specialist, a Counter Improvised Explosive Device Operator & Analyst, a Canadian hero, but most of all, a hero for all Kababayans!

Born in the Philippines, moved to Canada at 2 yrs old. Inspired by his grandfather Captain Emilio Liwanag, a Philippine Naval Officer hero who fought in World War II and the Korean War, Michael spent most of his adult life for the service of others and was honoured with the Philippine Mabini Award in 2018.

Michael is now working as Chief Warrant Officer for the Health Services Reserve which spans from Victoria BC to Halifax. We are honoured to interview Mike from Ottawa to share his journey of courage and survival, overcoming PTSD and his coaching in the upcoming Invictus Games.
