ALL NEW – SIMPLY THE BEST Season 11!
In 2016, The Global Slavery Index provided estimation of 17,000 people living in conditions of modern slavery in Canada. At this very moment, people and children here are being sexually exploited, abused, trapped and they need your help. Due to being significantly under reported, it is estimated that anywhere between 10,000 to 16,000 people are sex trafficked each year in Canada.
According to varying sources 93% of sex trafficking here in Canada is domestic. Indigenous woman make up 50% of sex trafficking although they only make 4% of the Canadian female population.
The rate of human trafficking in this country has doubled over the years – increasing the endangerment of 12-14 year olds who are said to be the average age of entry into the sex trade in Canada. Victims and survivors need your help, attention, action, and care.
Simply The Best correspondent Zenia Marshall interviews Karly Church – a Human Trafficking Crisis Intervention Counsellor with Victim Services of the Durham Ontario Region. As a survivor herself, she helps other victims of domestic sex trafficking and helps those who are currently suffering and trapped in the same situation she once was. Karly also visits schools to educate children on these issues and continues to spread awareness on many media platforms such as TED(x) talks, and national news channels.
“Justice will not be served until those who are unaffected are as outraged as those who are.”
– Benjamin Franklin
GROUNDBREAKING! This is probably one of the most controversial topics we talked about in many years on the show. It’s not an easy and pleasant subject but somehow we have to acknowledge that HUMAN TRAFFICKING in Canada is so prevalent. Indigenous woman make up 50% of sex trafficking.
