Is a complete lockdown in Metro Vancouver necessary to stop COVID-19?
After so many days of self-isolation, my husband Steve and I put on our media hats and drove to Downtown Vancouver, English Bay, Stanley Park to see for ourselves if people are still living in La La Land. The beach and parks were not as crowded as we were expecting which was a good sign. However, we witnessed some were practicing social distancing, but some others don’t. Why do we risk getting infected? Do we want a lockdown of our city, too?
Today the growing number of BC residents infected by COVID-19, also known as Coronavirus, is alarming. But not alarming enough for younger people leaving their homes and socializing, putting not just themselves at risk, but their parents, grandparents, especially our doctors, nurses, hospital staff.
Upon closures of recreational centres, golf courses, bike and skateboard parks, basketball and tennis courts, sports fields, and playgrounds in Vancouver, it’s good to know the removal of the giant logs along the English Bay beaches also took place. We applaud the city of Vancouver putting in place proper procedures and warnings after many reported group public gatherings last Saturday that sparked outrage by abiding citizens.
With current lockdowns happening in California, New York, San Francisco, in other countries mostly hit like Italy and Spain, we thought that we could learn from them. Unfortunately, many are skeptical and not worried at all with the possible outbreak of many people getting infected and dying from COVID-19. The utmost display of ignorance and lack of empathy from many Vancouverites is disappointing.
We are dedicating this program to our fellow Canadians to do what’s right.
Super Shout Out to all the doctors, nurses, caregivers, paramedics and other hospital staff. We can not thank you enough!
