From Luisa
It was a gorgeous Saturday to travel to Quesnel. Hardly any sleep the night before but I managed to endure an almost 8 hour drive from Vancouver. Steve and I arrived at the historic Billy Barker Hotel and Casino at around 3:30pm. Checked the showroom, went up to the hotel room, closed my eyes for 30 minutes, freshened up, put TINA make-up on, checked the sound, ate dinner, continued my full transformation to TINA, worked my way down to the showroom.
There were at least a 100 guests in the beautiful showroom. I waited patiently and, finally, the speeches were over. A big introduction and lights blaring across the room while “Addicted To Love” reverberated to where I started strutting on the carpet to enter the roomful of happy faces. Everybody clapped and sang with me, a sign of a great 90 minutes to follow.
They are the most polite audience I ever experienced in a private event. In between songs, the whole room was just quiet and listening while I talked… they enthusiastically participated. Yes, it was an evening of TINA hit songs sprinkled with a little bit of GAGA and ADELE. The wild experiment of throwing the bizarre Bad Romance wasn’t a bad idea at all. It was surprising that some Quesnel Monsters got up and danced with me on stage highlighting an over 60 year old fireman who seemed to know all the words to it.
In my heart, the winner of the “Most Sportsmanship Award” is Quesnel Volunteer Firefighters Chief Sylvain Gauthier. He led his team as the sexiest man in Quesnel during the fun and sexy Private Dancer while his wife Lisa watched in awe. Many more firefighters followed up, sang and danced but really the whole evening was a tribute to their wives who supported them through the years. I dedicated Simply The Best to all their beautiful ladies. It was stunning to see their reactions. The whole evening wrapped up with their favorite “Proud Mary” when I invited the charming mayor of Quesnel whose name happened to be… Mary. Proud Mary Sjostrom led all the ladies nice and rough through out the song. Overall, I was glad that TINA rocked Quesnel and made a group of deserving people feel so special.
“Being a member of the fire department is a rewarding experience,” said Fire Chief Sylvain Gauthier. “From the camaraderie and sense of belonging,to helping your fellow citizens during one of the most trying times of their lives, it’s a service that provides great value to the community and to the member. We take pride in providing a safe, rapid and professional response to all emergencies.”
